Journey to the Lower World to meet a Power Animal

Before starting your journey, if you have not journeyed to the drumbeat previously, we suggest you familiarize yourself with the drumbeats.

3 sets of 7 slow drumbeats at the start: Imagine yourself at the place you will be journeying from and stating your intention out loud 3 times.

Faster rhythmic drumbeats: This is when you start your journey, and this beat will continue until it is time to return. When this stops, it is time to return to where you entered your non-ordinary map.

3 sets of 7 slow drumbeats: Allows you time to return to your entrance following the same route back.

Call-back - very rapid drumbeats: This will propel you back up your tunnel of entrance, back to every day ordinary reality.

When you are familiar with these drumbeats, prepare yourself by making sure you will not be disturbed, are warm and wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Journeying is best done in a darkened room - or place a covering over your eyes. Werecommend you use the 10 minute journey at first.

Imagine or visualize a beautiful place of nature - it may he somewhere you have visited or have seen in a picture. Take a moment to really sense and feel this place. Feel the earth beneath your feet, the fragrance of the growing things. Allow yourself to feel relaxed and grounded. When you feel really comfortable in this place, start looking around for somewhere to journey from.

As you are journeying to the Lower World, you will need to be going down an opening. This can be a hollow tree, a rabbit hole or even a door into the earth – or you can jump into water. Find something that feels comfortable to you. This is your place of entrance into your Lower World non-ordinary reality.

While the slow beat sounds, state your intention: "I am journeying to the Lower
World to meet a Power Animal," out loud 3 times.

When the faster beat starts it is time to jump into or fall into your chosen entrance. The tunnel may be dark, sometimes it may be brightly lit. Whatever you experience, you will always be falling downwards and may find yourself spiraling down. Youwill arrive at an entrance to your Lower World.

If you find you have landed inside a cave you will find a door of some description into your Lower World map. Maybe you want to explore it but remember your intention is to meet a Power Animal. If you explore, look for landmarks to find your way back to your entrance.

When you meet an animal, ask it: "Are you my Power Animal? If the reply seems to be affirmative, by word or action (they can often be very humorous) them turn away. If the same animal appears before you again ask the same question. Do this 4 times which is symbolic of looking for confirmation in all 4 main directions. Usually you will know when this creature is your ally as there is a feeling of knowing However, it is good to follow the tried and tested ways. If there is still time before the call-back, you can get to know each other in any way that feels good to you.

When the call back comes, you must come back following the same route back to your entrance. Say farewell to your Power Animal and allow the drum beat to propel you back up your entrance tunnel back to ordinary reality.

What is Shamanism?

The Shamanic tradition is one of the oldest spiritual practices. It can be traced back at least 50,000 years.
Rather than a belief system, it is an age-old way of gaining knowledge and integrating parts of our life force that we have lost touch with, allowing us to regain our natural power.

The word "Shaman" comes from the Tungist tribe in Siberia and translates as "one who sees in the dark" or "healer".

What is remarkable about Shamanism is that although it was developed by many separate cultures - in Australia, Siberia, Europe, Africa and the Americas — a core practice exists which is common to
all of these traditions.

The core practice is the journey to non-ordinary realities, namely: the Lower World, which is usually a very verdant Garden of Eden type of place, where we can meet our Power Animal allies and find guidance and practical help. The Upper World is a place where we can meet our spirit guides and wise elders who often appear in human form. The Middle World is the parallel non-ordinary reality to our earthly world.
